I got the thing no chef would want!Thats written up for stupid crap, but I'll own it for now! My manager had a cashier (co worker) sign it as a witness she is below me.Can I fight this have this manager written up or fired,is this against the law of breach of confidentialty? Thanks!
It is breach of confidentiality and ethics, what goes on between management is management business not hour employees. what he did in having an employee sign the coach and council document can be considered illegal because most documents require a manager/chef at the same level and at least 1 that is upper management to sign as witness as well as HR should have been notified before this would have happen.
You can definitely fight this and have that manager written up as for getting that manager fired most likely not, but this will definitely create some bad blood between the both of you, but yet again he is most likely not backing you up anyways.
Hi Charles,
You did not say what you were written up for, but truthfully it is none of our business. In many institutions the Chef may be at the top of the food chain, so they will argue that nobody of higher rank was there to witness the write up. You also said that the witness was a cashier, they will argue that he/she was not from your department and were justified in using them as a witness. There is no law that I know of that states a witness to a write up needs to be a supervisor. Some companies only have one boss, and several employees. They will get around this someway, so I suggest you don't rock the boat. There is also a difference between ethics and the law as Chef Diaz has suggested, be sure you have the law on your side before you make any moves. You don't need to loose your job right now.
I requested a transfer, because this manager & I cannot work together.I have lost all respect and trust in her! This job is hard enough to have anyone nit pick over something so stupid. One chef told me to have it thrown out.I am not rocking the boat that is sinking anyway, thats why in some ways I am asking for a transfer. You and others have heared me vent about this B***H before.I am tired fo busting my ass everyday and then gettin writen up was a slap in the face!
Charles,
Welcome to the Chef's nightmare. Sometimes we can be the best Chef in the world, give 110% of ourselves, go above and beyond the call of duty yet somebody doesn't appreciate us or requires more then we can possibly give. We only have 2 hands, and many times it seems our supervisors tie them behind our back. This is the time to step back, keep your perspective, be professional and keep your wits about you. It sounds like you are dealing with a bunch of type A personalities from both subordinates and supervisors alike, a deadly combination as far as your career is concerned. You have somebody from below sabotaging you all the time, and somebody from above always taking their side. Is this the case, because I get that impression from your previous posts. I can help you with this problem or give you some advice if you let me know what's going on.
I got my transfer to another account, that I requested. But I 've got a sence that it might be a trap,to get me back for stepping forward about my manager doing what she did last week because theses manager are close. When I get to this account,my boss's ,boss and the manager and the Ex.chef will meet with me on Friday to go over an action plan and new duties. They basicly shifted the other three chefs from two other units. This move is what I need to take a step back from what the DM said enhance the companies standards. Some of the staff at my unit will get a rude awakening, this chef will put them in there place or will fail with her hands tied, just like me!
Knew something was fishy. There was an ad for the position I had. There taking a long time Chef at one unit taking her putting her in my position and taking the chef at the unit I am going to putting him in the long time chef 's position and putting me in his position.Aspecially fishy when this one chef had a fallin out with the manager I working for now.The so called leaders of this company should be fired for this BS
Now wait a minute Charles, you got exactly what you wanted didn't you with the transfer? You said you asked for it, right? Again, take a step back and don't assume everyone is out to get you, espesially when you got exactly what you asked for. Don't question how they replaced you, when they did what they had to do to accomidate you. Obviously you were a valuable employee to them or they would not have bothered transfering you at your request, they would have let you go. Take a step back, and do the best you can at your new position. Loose the chip off your shoulder, and just do the best you can for your new position.
Take a breath Charles...
Chef Daniel is a calming voice of reason here. You'd do well to listen to his advice. I can see the veins on your temple pounding from here (Seattle).
I know several very talented chefs that are standing in the unemployment line. Don't add yourself to that list. As Daniel said, your employer must see some value in keeping you around or you'd be gone by now.
Remember that in times like these the talent pool is very deep.
Everyone is replaceable.
Step back, take a breath... Go get 'em.
Trying not to be one of millions of chef and cooks on unemployment. But,I was told that this transfer may not be perminent. The ex.chef told me last week that this was an evaulation not perminent. But we both are taking it as as it will be perminent. Can't talk to HR because its been three weeks sence that I had an issue with and have not heard a thing yet!Just keeping my mouth shut and doing what I have to do.
