Chef Paul... I'm assuming this is your first trip. Your list is good to go. Doubt you'll need alarm clock, as you will be in tune with the ship, and revele comes early.

Assuming that you will be underway out of Norfolk, dress warm!

If you are a cigar smoker, take a few for yourself, the CO, XO, CMC, SUPPo and the lead CS. Nothing like a good cigar on the Bridge Wing while sailing under the stars. Trust me one that one!

Don't be afraid to ask about seeing and doing things outside of the galley. The crews, in my experience, are happy to have you out as a volunteer, and they will go out of their way to make your stay on you will never forget.

What ship will you be on?

Thanks Chef Ray, just what I needed. 10 days of clothes and everything else and I used to work seasonal jobs in National Parks. Ear plugs.

Will anyone be at the ACF regional in Boston? If so, why don't we all get together, have a drink and swap sea stories. I will be there, and I think Chef Harants will be there as well.

John....looks like I might be spending on time on the Stethem in March as well. Senior Chief Dykes and I go way back to his days as a 1st Class on the Tarawa. Glad you had such a great time and if this was your first time out...welcome to the program!

I just returned in early December from a 10 day cruise out of Yokosuka Japan. I was aboard the USS Fitzgerald DDG-62 and USS Stehem DDG-63. If you have the opportunity to take part in this program, I would encourage you to get in contact with Chef Harants.

The support you can provide by just sharing your knowledge with these young men and women is an amazing experience. You learn just as much about your commitment to the culinary arts as they have commited to serving our nation.

It is just starting to sink in that this expereince was one of those once in a life time opportunities. I will attach a few pictures of the trip and the amazing culinary experiences I had from serving a "Thankyou" steak and lobster dinner to a crew of 300 out a sea to the sights and sensory overload of the Tokyo Fish and Produce Market.

Finally I would like to thank Michael Harants for creating the program as well as the CS commands of both the "Fitz" and "Steelworkers" on the Stethem for their hospitality and continued friendship.
