I just spent 10 days in Hawaii/Island of Oahu at Pearl Harbor with the NAVYS BEST- Hands down- they were eager to learn and showed me the best the NAVY has as the Silver Dolphin is the top in the NAVY for foodservice. I have made life long culinary friends and this particular trip was one I will never forget and want to return as I am able.
I have made three Adopt A Ship trips and everyone I learn so much from the CS" and I am able to teach them what they want to know.
Anybody with the chance to go on this program - DO IT!! have fun and be a chef.

Paul....I suggest you contact Chef Michael Harants, the chef responsible for co-ordinating this program. He can fill you in with the requisite details. You can contact him via e-mail adoptaship@verizon.net or through this board. Keep us posted on your Navy adventures.

I have a cousin baking on board ship somewhere off of Japan. What do you have to do to volunteer to help serve aboard ship.

I've been fortunate enough to particpate in the program 15 times in the past 9 years. I recommend it highly, and if anyone has questions, please feel free to contanct me. By the way, the picture of me for 'wearechefs' was taken on the bridge of DDG 56 USS John McCain, named after his father and grandfather. The picture is from my most recent trip, as part of the Great White Fleet celebration in Australia!

I'm proud to be a member of this group and look forward to getting underway again in the near future. Adopt-A-Ship is one of the most rewarding experiences that I have had.

This is a great program and Michael Harants, you deserve the credit for spearheading it to where it is today. One of these days when the stars are aligned and my schedule slows down I will get on one of those big boats and work with the Navy.
