We Are Chefs

Where is the line between food and "culinary art"? or When does plain food become a masterpiece? Come on guys. Help me out with your input. This is a point I am trying to argue in my logic class. I have some ideas, but would love to hear what you all think. Please post, post, post quick. I have to turn in my paper tonight.

Hi Bonny-

This is a GREAT discussion topic! I think that the line between food and "art" is when the person creating it is more invested in the quality than the simple production of it and when the person eating is enjoying it beyond the intrinsic value of being nourished.

As generic as it sounds, the love of the art outweighs the end product. For example, I am not a lover of baking and pastry, so when I make and decorate a cake, it is food; but when I build a sandwich for a family member, I try to make it something more creative and wonderful than simply being something to eat.

Good luck on your paper, let us know what your final conclusion ends up being.
