Childrens Recipes

A location to brainstorm Children's Recipes. Simple things that perhaps need no cooking (like the ol' standby 'ants on a log') to those that a child can start and finish themselves or perhaps with very limited supervision since most children are home

QUOTE OF THE WEEK - Alice Waters on Edible Education
"It will take money from our state and federal governments, and advocacy by our leaders, to change course on a ship this big. It won't be easy, because it can't happen just by lecturing kids on nutrition, or putting salad bars in cafeterias. Edible Education is...a way of making sure that children grow up feeling the soil with their own fingers, harvesting its bounty in the American sunshine, and watching their own hands make the kind of beautiful, inexpensive food that can nourish the body and the spirit. Only then will the next generations of Americans know that we don't just vote in the ballot box, we vote for the kind of world we want every time we choose what to eat."

Welcome Vicki,
The best piece of advice I tell my students is to be the Chef. What I mean by that is taking somethings you already know and challenge yourself to make it one step better. Thats what Chefs do and thats how some of the best recipes came about. Its kind of like who ever decided to put a banana on a peanut butter sandwich. There is a silly cookbook for kids called Its Disgusting And You Ate It. Its full of food facts and history of kids foods we eat today and all true. For example there is a fun story about the sandwich. The sandwich was invented by the Earl Of Sandwich Italy. He was a poker player who never wanted to leave the table so he always asked for his steak with two pieces of bread so he could use one hand to deal and one to eat. Put out a mistery basket one day and see what she comes up with. Youd be supprised. Have Fun

Good Morning Everyone!! I wanted to join this group because I am trying to teach my daughter to try different things. She loves to help in the kitchen, being the "sous chef" but she only like to eat typical "kid food". Looking for ideas that she can try herself. She is 8yrs old.

I have several great recipes for childrens lunch boxes, one is a chocolate chip cookie made with ground almonds and unbleached whole spelt flour, maple syrup, unrefined coconut oil, the chips i use are grain sweetened, these cookies are one of my daughters favorite, i have been making these for years, i also make a wonderful macadamia/coconut balls that are real good, i will get the recipes and post.... if anyone is interested, both these recipes are fun to make with your children and especially fun to eat

I just found this and it is very exciting to see a group for childrens recipes. Children are an extremely important gourp to focus on since they will be learning life long lessons concerning healthy eating habits!
